As I set out to write this review I decided to look at what others have said about Armadillo and I saw the negative reviews from late summer of last year which coincided with the management change. The service was attentive, the food great, the portions. We didn't realize until we got there that the ownership had changed last year. My wife and I went to Armadillo last night because we had not been in some time. Probably won't be going back there for a while. In these hard times every dollar counts, and we want to support local business. We weren't going to ask, but it would have been nice if they would have offered to take it off the bill, or at the very least discount it. Something about different/new people in the kitchen.Īnd at the end we were offered a drink, but honestly we just wanted to get out of there, we had been there too long already and declined. She must have seen the looks on our face and the hesitation.įinally we said "Do you really want to know?" So we let her know.Īnd supposedly she let the owner know. "How did you like your meal? Is everything OK?" The staff attentive, friendly, apologetic. The one drink ordered was strong and good. The burrito bowl was OK but not especially exciting. Not one to send food back, I tried to choke them down since we ordered them, but couldn't finish, they were that bad. Gortons from the supermarket would have been more authentic - and way less expensive. As a matter of fact, they were the worst fish tacos I've ever had. So sorry we missed that, because the fish tacos we got tasted like something out of a box of industrial cafeteria frozen food - they were formed triangles of mealy yuck. I'm reading someone else's review about "delicious crispy fish tacos". We wondered "How long does it take to make a burrito?" But instead we asked to move away from the speaker (blessed relief) and then the food finally arrived. We were actually contemplating asking to just get it to go so we wouldn't have to sit there one more minute not talking, since we couldn't hear each other over the way too loud music blaring from a speaker less than two feet from our heads. To start, it seemed to take a really, really long time to get our food. the kitchen, but our recent meal there was pretty bad. Not sure if it has to do with the reopening in the time of Covid or if it's different people in. We have been going to Armadillo for years, usually for an afternoon lunch or early dinner on the patio. When we’re back in the area, we’ll probably stop in and take them up on the outdoor dining. They had a nice variety of menu options and friendly service. There was a mild mishap with our order when we arrived, but it was quickly resolved – the staff were doing very well juggling a busy dinner service and handling takeout orders while keeping everything friendly and calm.Īll in all, this was a tasty spot to get our dinner from. The salad was good, but a bit expensive for what it was it probably would have been better with chicken or another protein. The Caesar salad had fresh crispy lettuce and a light dressing. The refried beans that came with tasted great with the cauliflower and it all worked well with the corn tortillas. The cauliflower taco platter was tasty, a great vegetarian option with well cooked cauliflower and lots of radishes on top. The poblano rice on the side was good but a bit spicy. The chicken mole enchiladas had tender pulled chicken with a reasonably good mole sauce.

They have a lovely outdoor seating area that looked like it would be nice to try, with one area that looked set up for quiet, intimate dining and a separate area that was more group-, kid- and pet-friendly. of parking right by the restaurant but you can find some in the neighborhood nearby.

From our quick look at the interior, the patio and the menu, they have significantly upgraded from the standard bar & grill that they used to be. We ordered our dinner to go and arrived to find it ready on time.
